The ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Beijing announced that China will provide Iran with its new global positioning system called Baidu.

In an interview with Chinese media, Mohammad Keshavarzzadeh described the cooperation between Tehran and Beijing in various fields, including the fight against the corona, the design of a belt and a road, trade exchanges and friendly cooperation, China Radio International reported on Thursday. Referring to China’s progress in various fields, including communication technology, the Iranian ambassador said: “Tehran will cooperate with Beijing to provide the fifth generation Internet infrastructure in the country.”

He said that China’s aerospace industry has made great strides and that the completion and official launch of the Beido system is one of China’s great achievements in this field. China’s Beido system, as part of our new relationship with China, can lay a solid foundation for expanding new relations between the two countries.

Keshavarzzadeh stated: China will provide Iran with “Bido” system, which is a new global positioning system.

The Beidou Navigation System, or Beidou Navigation Satellite System, is a Chinese project to develop an independent satellite navigation system. Since 2000, the system has been providing navigation services mainly to customers in China and neighboring regions.

The second generation of this system, known as the compass or bido-2, and a global navigation satellite system consisting of 35 satellites, is still under construction. The system was launched in China in December 2011 with 10 satellites and was scheduled to serve the Asia-Pacific region by 2012 and the entire Earth by 2020.

China successfully launched the last member of the Baidu satellite series on Tuesday, July 23rd, completing its new global navigation system after decades.

The Iranian ambassador to China continued: “China’s economy is growing rapidly and its role and influence in international relations is increasing day by day.”

Keshavarzadeh added: “Iran, as one of the largest and most diverse economic communities in the Middle East, can be an attractive destination for Chinese companies.”

In the end, he stated: “We have expressed our goodwill and the bilateral cooperation between the two countries will achieve greater development in the future.”
